Desde Domingo que ando a tentar vir aqui escrever qualquer coisa mas não consigo. Entre raiva, fúria, desilusão e uma profunda tristeza, cada vez que vejo ou leio algo sobre o que se passou em Orlando só me apetece chorar. Sem saber muito bem como, a distância devia ser suficiente para isto não acontecer, ou assim pensei, estes acontecimentos atingiram-me como se tivesse sido atropelado por camião. Atingiu-me a um nível pessoal que eu jamais sabia ser possível. Eu só posso imaginar o que as familias das vitimas podem estar a sentir neste momento.

Como não me consigo centrar para escrever algo com significado, deixo aqui um vídeo e um link. Nunca se esqueça o que se passou no Pulse, em Orlando, EUA.

Since Sunday that I've been trying to come here and write something, but I can't. Between anger, rage, disappointment and a deep sadness, every time I see or read something about what has happened in Orlando I feel like crying. Without knowing exactly how, the distance should have been enough for this not to happen, or so I thought, these events have hit me like a truck. They've hit me on a personal level that I never thought possible. I can only imagine what the families of the victims are feeling at this moment. 

As I can't focus myself to write something meaningful, I leave a video and a link. Never forget what happened at Pulse, in Orlando, USA.

Our lives are made by a continuing series of changes. Sometimes subtle, sometimes abrupt. Sometimes we take upon ourselves to change voluntarily, other times change is forced upon us by some event or by the will of another. Sometimes we change for the better but sometimes we change for the worse. However they are all changes, and we must deal with them to the best of our ability... Either we learn to accept change or we wither away. We may weep for what was but we must long for the future for that is what we can change.

I chose to be bold and face change head on. It may break me in the end but then again it may well not. I've decided to accept change and make a new beginning. Where this road will take me I know not but I do know that a great new adventure lies before me, and all I need to do is walk that path. Onto the undiscovered country!

Transcrevo aqui uma carta publicada no Sunday Telegraph onde a Irlanda avisa Portugal do que irá acontecer se entrar aqui o FMI. Por ser exausta e por a grande maioria perceber Inglês, optei por não a traduzir. Sublinhei, contudo, as partes que me pareceram mais interessantes. Para os que precisarem de tradução, sugiro o Google Tradutor, o qual oferece boa qualidade.

Dear Portugal, this is Ireland here. I know we don't know each other very well, though I hear some of our developers are down with you riding out the recession.

They could be there for a while. Anyway, I don't mean to intrude but I've been reading about you in the papers and it strikes me that I might be able to offer you a bit of advice on where you are at and what lies ahead. As the joke now goes, what's the difference between Portugal and Ireland? Five letters and six months.

Anyway, I notice now that you are under pressure to accept a bailout but your politicians are claiming to be determined not to take it. It will, they say, be over their dead bodies. In my experience that means you'll be getting a bailout soon, probably on a Sunday. First let me give you a tip on the nuances of the English language. Given that English is your second language, you may think that the words 'bailout' and 'aid' imply that you will be getting help from our European brethren to get you out of your current difficulties. English is our first language and that's what we thought bailout and aid meant. Allow me to warn you, not only will this bailout, when it is inevit-ably forced on you, not get you out of your current troubles, it will actually prolong your troubles for generations to come.

For this you will be expected to be grateful. If you want to look up the proper Portuguese for bailout, I would suggest you get your English-Portuguese dictionary and look up words like: moneylending, usury, subprime mortgage, rip-off. This will give you a more accurate translation of what will be happening you.

I see also that you are going to change your government in the next couple of months. You will forgive me that I allowed myself a little smile about that. By all means do put a fresh coat of paint over the subsidence cracks in your economy. And by all means enjoy the smell of fresh paint for a while.

We got ourselves a new Government too and it is a nice diversion for a few weeks. What you will find is that the new government will come in amidst a slight euphoria from the people. The new government will have made all kinds of promises during the election campaign about burning bondholders and whatnot and the EU will smile benignly on while all that loose talk goes on.

Then, when your government gets in, they will initially go out to Europe and throw some shapes. You might even win a few sports games against your old enemy, whoever that is, and you may attract visits from foreign dignitaries like the Pope and that. There will be a real feel-good vibe in the air as everyone takes refuge in a bit of delusion for a while.

And enjoy all that while you can, Portugal. Because reality will be waiting to intrude again when all the fun dies down. The upside of it all is that the price of a game of golf has become very competitive here. Hopefully the same happens down there and we look forward to seeing you then.

The new economy

Last night I heard a very good description about this new economy some of us are trying to save leaving others in utter misery. It goes like this: take what you need and live a little back. Indeed and a very little part at that.

This is from a Justin Bond's song called "The new depression". I was trying to find the lyrics but I couldn't find any on the internet and I'm too lazy to find the music, listen to it and write down the lyrics myself.

Este post vem no seguimento de outros que fiz no passado e lamento ter que os continuar a fazer.

As relações da Igreja Católica e o Estado da República da Irlanda por Keithzworld. Segundo parece os nomes dos padres que praticaram abusos sexuais não serão publicados num relatório.

Parece-me mais um caso dos já muito célebres casos da Santa Igreja vir pregar moralidade sem dar o exemplo. Já era altura dos senhores membros do clero Católico cuidarem do que se passa na sua própria casa, sem encobrimentos e desculpas esfarrapadas, e depois virem pregar moralidade para a casa dos outros.

Penso, sobretudo, que é cada vez mais importante haver uma clara separação entre Igreja e Estado. As promiscuidades entre estas duas instituições tem de ser absolutamente inequívoca Há três casos na Europa que me preocupam seriamente. Sem nenhuma ordem especifica: Portugal, Irlanda e Polónia.

Eu uso o caso da Irlanda porque foi o caso retratado no vídeo mas o que se passa lá passa-se também nos outros dois países que referi. Temo que isto possa dar aso a que no futuro ressurjam estados religiosos semelhantes aos que houve no passado Europeu e que hoje se vê um pouco por todo o mundo Islâmico.

This post is a follow up to others that I've written before and I regret having to keep doing them.

The relations between the Catholic Church and the Republic of Ireland by Keithzworld. Apparently the names of priests who were involved in sexual abuses are to be left out of a report soon to be published.

It seems to me another case like many others in which the Catholic Church comes preaching morality without setting the proper example. It's time for the members of the Catholic clergy to take care of what is going on inside their own house, without cove-ups and clumsy excuses, and then lecture others.

I think it's becoming imperative now more than ever, that there must be a clear separation between Church and State. The promiscuity between these two institutions must be not leave any doubt whatsoever. There are three cases in Europe that preoccupy me. Without any particular order: Portugal, Ireland and Poland.

I'm using the case of Ireland because it was the one mentioned on the video but what is going on there could be happening in either one of the other two countries that I referred before. I fear that this may end up leading to a rebirth of religious states similar to those that existed in Europe in the past and to those which currently exist in throughout the Islamic world.

There goes the English language...

Nova Lei em Itália põe em causa liberdades dos Bloggers - Notícia BBC

Segundo a edição online da BBC, uma nova lei italiana está a por em causa as liberdades de expressão dos blogues naquele país tendo já motivado uma greve de dos bloggers.

Esta nova lei os bloggers terão 48 horas para publicarem uma resposta de desculpas sempre que alguém se sinta ofendido com algo publicado. Caso não publiquem um pedido de desculpas neste prazo ficarão sujeitos a coimas entre superiores a 10000 €.

Uma reportagem da CNN que mostra como estão a ser educadas as crianças em Gaza. Desde cedo são postas a "treinar". O Hamas diz que não tem nada a haver com terrorismo e fundamentalismo. Eu discordo. Acho que é exactamente para isso. Mas vejam o vídeo e julguem por vocês mesmos.

A CNN report which shows how are children in Gaza being educated and raised. From their early years they are put to the training. Hamas claims that it has nothing to do with terrorism and fundamentalism. I disagree. I think it's exactly that. In any case, see the video and make your own judgement.

Raparigas de 16 anos em clubes de strip nos EUA - 16 year old girls in strip clubs in the US

I've decided to write this in both English and Portuguese.

English version

In the State of Rhode Island it is legal for 16 year old girls to dance naked in strip clubs if they are home by 11:30 p.m.. In a country where it is shocking to show women's tits and where non pornographic nudity is an affront to decency and the healthy growth of the poor little children, pedophilia in Churches and having minors dancing naked is strangely legal.

What's also strange is the fact that a country that preaches such good morality is also the biggest consumer of pornography in the world.

Even stranger is the fact that they consider the same-sex marriage an affront to the traditional American family's decency and morality and yet pornography and 16 years olds dancing naked are not.

I rest my case. See the video from CNN below.

No Estado de Rhode Island é legal raparigas de 16 anos estarem a dançar nuas em clubes de strip se estiverem em casa às 11:30 da noite. Num país onde é chocante mostrarem-se os bicos das mamas de uma mulher e onde a nudez não pornográfica é um atentado ao pudor e ao bom crescimento das pobres das crianças, a pedofilia nas Igrejas e terem rapariguinhas de 16 anos a dançarem nuas é estranhamente legal.

O que também é estranho é o facto de um país que tão bons costumes prega ser também o maior consumidor de industria pornográfica do mundo.

Ainda mais estranho é o facto de considerarem um atentado ao pudor e aos bons costumes e à família tradicional o casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo mas pornografia e bares de strip onde raparigas de 16 anos dançam nuas já não o serem.
